        Published by Editura ICI, in 2001, the English – Romanian Dictionary for GIS and TIC, ISBN: 973-85554-0-X, authors: Angela Ionita and Eugen Moise containing more than 1 300 terms, has been thought in order to facilitate the understanding of the commonly documentation to the students, ITC and GIS communities and to all inquired about GIS technology and ITC.

In order to introduce a term in this dictionary it was necessary to comply with at least one of the following rules:

·        To be mentioned in AGI Dictionary (http://www.agi.org.uk/pag-es/dict-agi.htm);

·        To be mentioned in the OGC “OpenGIS guide” (http://www.opengis.org/techno/guide.htm);

·        To be present in “PANEL-GI COMPENDIUM – A guide to GI and GIS”, published by Technical University of Vienna;

·        To be present in “International GIS Dictionary”, authors: Rachel McDonnel, Karen Kemp;

·        To be present in “GIS Dictionary”, author: Bela Markus;

·        To be mentioned in “Dictionar GIS”, published by Editura ICI, in 1997 authors: Oana Truica, Angela Ionita, Claudiu Varcalin, Eugen Moise;

·        To be present in “GIS for Beginners and Not Only”, author: Angela Ionita;

·        To be component of GIS “jargon”;

·        To be component of ICT “jargon”;

·        To be present in the documentation of the widespread GIS software products from ESRI and INTERGRAPH.

 

        Based on a cooperation with George Mason University and funds from Andrew Mellon Foundation in New York, our Center established an Internet Laboratory and started in December 1995 a series of on-line free introductory courses on network communication. The courses (lasting 3 full days) were taught by the researchers of the Center. The attendees are researchers from the Institutes of Romanian Academy. The courses organised in 1996 were attended by more than 200 participans; with the same rate per year, we will have at the end of the next year 650 graduates from these training courses. The lecture notes,"Introducere în INTERNET" ("Introduction to INTERNET") authored by the Centre engineer specialists (Acad. Gheorghe Tecuci, Dr. Dan Tufis, Dr. Stefan Trăusan-Matu, Lorina Negreanu, Dana Trifănescu, Silviu Călinoiu, Cristina Niculescu, Dorin Marcu, Mihai Ciocoiu, Stefan Bruda) and published by the Technical Publishing House, were distributed as an auxiliary teaching material. Recent Advances in Romanian Language Technology. The book is based on the extended and updated papers, selected out of those presented at the Awareness Seminar on Language & Technology", held in Bucharest, January 28-30, 1996. The Proceedings of the Seminar, containing all the presented papers is available only in Romanian. Please use a browser that supports style sheets. We present the Proceedings of the National Seminar "Awareness Days on Language Technology" held in Bucharest 29-30 January, 1996. This Seminar was organised within the EC Awareness Campaign programm and followed similar events in Czech Republic, The Baltic States (organised in Riga) and Poland. The Seminar in Bucharest was followed by another one in St. Petersburg:
