SCIENTIFIC AND PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY :

·          Research, consulting and teaching in the areas of speech technology, digital signal processing (algorithms, software implementations, digital signal processors, advanced techniques for digital signal processing), human-computer interaction (intelligent speech-enabled interfaces), artificial neural networks (basic principles, applications in speech processing), embedded systems (development of spoken language interfaces for embedded applications), programming languages, and analog integrated circuits (analysis and simulation).

·          Worked for 20 years in the speech processing domain (speech analysis, voice coding, speech and speaker recognition, natural language processing, and text-to-speech synthesis), with significant results.

·          Design and implementation of various spoken language technology applications; many important contributions to the development of speech technologies in Romanian language.

·          Author or coauthor of 9 books, 48 articles in journals and conference proceedings, 2 patents, and more than 60 technical reports for scientific research contracts.

·          Romanian Academy Award “Tudor Tanasescu” in 2004 (in the speech technology domain).

·          Edited in 2002 a special issue of International Journal of Speech Technology on speech technology research in Romania: Vol. 5, Issue 3 – Special Issue on Recent Speech Technology Developments in Romania, Kluwer Academic Publishers, Sep. 2002.

·          Membership: EURASIP (European Association for Signal and Image Processing), ISCA (International Speech Communication Association), IEEE; cited in the Directory of International Language and Speech Technology Experts of ELSNET (European Network of Excellence in Human Language Technologies). Also member of the Scientific Council at the Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence of the Romanian Academy (RACAI).

·          Member of the Editorial Board for the International Journal of Speech Technology (IJST) – Springer Publishing House (formerly published by Kluwer Academic Publishers).
