2.1.1. Consonants

One has less problems with the consonants, but still we have to mention some of them.

2.1.2. Vowels

Vowels and semivowels cause the greatest problems in the automatic mapping of letters onto phonemes, with consequences on syllabication. For some of these, the reference literature [3] offers information which must be checked (especially in the case of neologisms) and completed. The cause is that not the whole database stock was examined from the very beginning.

2.2. Automatic syllabication

In order to syllabicate the words in Romanian, the reference normative studies accept phonetic syllabication but also recommend the usage of morphological syllabication (which takes into account the internal structure of the word).

The syllabication rules were formalised for the computer requests. Research is facilitated by the 'filter' included in the soft, which allows the user to select certain groups of letters (coded or in clear) and to extract all the words of the database which contain that sequence. It is possible to choose the words which contain it at the beginning, at the end, or in any other position.
