Considerations on the Localization of Software Products for Management
Information Systems
2. The features of TTT
TTT (Figure 1, Figure 2) assures
the translation from one language to another of any texts and
text data, while assisting the translation process in different
ways. The main advantages of using TTT are:
- It is not necessary that the
translators have programming experience.
- The integrity of the translated
software is assured, TTT providing functions for the extraction
of the texts to be translated from the programs sources, data
files, message files, etc., and for the updating of the results
in the original files after translation.
- The already translated words
and phrases are automatically replaced for their new appearances
in the text.
- Strong editing facilities
are provided for the conversion to/from capital/small letters,
for the moving, deleting and insertion of texts and fields.
- All the information concerning
the translation is stored in the words and phrases dictionaries
that can be later on applied to the new texts to be translated.
New versions of the same product can be so easily translated,
using the existing dictionaries.

TTT allows for the translation of words, phrases and field values.
-
When words are translated, there is an one-to-one
correspondence between the two languages. Synonyms and homonyms
are allowed. The translated words are saved in the word-dictionary
that can be continuously corrected during the translation process.
The word-dictionary contains also
compounds (short groups of words, which are always treated as
an entity - ex. "general ledger")
The dictionaries developed by different translators
can be then unified and the possible translation conflicts corrected
interactively.
